FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE AIR FILTER IN MY UNIT?

The main purpose of the air filter within your heating and/or cooling equipment is to keep the air delivery system and equipment clean for proper operation. A clogged filter will cause increased operating costs and can lead to costly premature equipment failure. In addition, proper filtration can reduce many household aggravates, such as dust, pollen, and other particules within the air, improving the quality of air you breathe.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
A FIBERGLASS FILTER AND A PLEATED FILTER?

Fiberglass filters are an inexpensive way to filter the air coming into your home by trapping the larger particles that travel through the air.

A pleated filter is thicker than the standard fiberglass filter and has a larger surface area, which allows it to trap more particles. Pleated filters may cost more than traditional fiberglass filters, but they are more efficient and provide the most effective filtering available with throw-away filters.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I REPLACE MY AIR FILTER?

Filters are rated when they are new. As they accumulate particles, the spaces between the particles become smaller, allowing them to trap progressively smaller particles. Over time, the spaces are filled and the filter can no longer serve its purpose. This would result in a dirty air filter, which will restrict the air flow to your system and increase the humidity level in your home, further creating a damaging effect on your equipment. For this reason, your air filter should be replaced on an average of every three (3) months within normal operating conditions.
